Derusso’S Pizzeria

Overview

Walking into Derusso’S Pizzeria feels like stepping into the kind of neighborhood spot locals quietly guard. Tucked along the water at 1120 Pinellas Bayway S, Tierra Verde, FL 33715, United States, this casual pizzeria has built a steady reputation for comfort food done right. I first stopped in after a long afternoon on the beach, and the smell of baked dough and simmering sauce hit before the door even closed behind me. That moment alone explained why so many nearby residents treat this place as their go-to dinner option.

The menu keeps things familiar but thoughtful. Classic hand-tossed pizzas anchor the lineup, with options ranging from simple cheese to generously topped specialty pies. What stands out is the balance-crispy edges, a foldable center, and sauce that doesn’t overpower the cheese. The kitchen follows a straightforward process that many seasoned pizza makers swear by: slow-fermented dough, high-heat baking, and fresh toppings added in layers rather than piled on. According to research from the American Institute of Baking, proper fermentation improves both texture and digestibility, and you can taste that difference here. It’s not flashy pizza; it’s dependable, well-executed comfort food.

Beyond pizza, the menu branches into pasta dishes, subs, and salads that make it easy for groups to agree on a meal. I’ve watched families split a large pie while someone else digs into baked ziti, and nobody feels like they settled. One visit, I tried the house lasagna after a server mentioned it’s prepared in small batches. That method helps maintain consistency and food safety, something the CDC regularly highlights as essential for restaurants handling dairy and meats. The layers were rich without being heavy, and it reheated surprisingly well the next day-always a good sign.

Reviews from regulars tend to echo the same themes: friendly service, generous portions, and a laid-back vibe. On platforms like Google and Yelp, independent diners often mention the staff remembering repeat customers and orders, which lines up with my experience. During a busy Friday evening, the counter staff handled a rush of takeout orders without losing their cool, double-checking names and toppings. That kind of attention builds trust, especially when accuracy matters for dietary preferences or allergies.

Location plays a big role in the appeal. Tierra Verde doesn’t have endless dining options, so a reliable pizzeria becomes part of the community fabric. After boating or fishing, it’s common to see people swing by still in casual gear, grabbing food to go. While I can’t confirm every sourcing detail, the staff has mentioned working with regional suppliers when possible, a practice supported by the National Restaurant Association for maintaining freshness and supporting local economies. If availability changes, seasonal variations sometimes affect toppings, and the team is upfront about substitutions.

From an experience standpoint, Derusso’S Pizzeria succeeds by not overpromising. You won’t find experimental cuisine or fine-dining pretension here, and that honesty matters. The prices reflect the portions, the atmosphere matches the menu, and expectations are met consistently. That reliability is often what keeps diners coming back more than any single standout dish.

For anyone scanning reviews before choosing where to eat, it helps to know that this spot focuses on doing the basics well. While hours and menu items may occasionally shift, especially during peak tourist seasons, the core offering remains steady. In a dining landscape where trends come and go, this pizzeria sticks to what works, serving food that feels familiar, filling, and worth the stop every time.

We’ve been frequent flyers at DeRusso’s ever since moving to Tierra Verde about two years ago. We usually stop in for a quick slice or grab a pizza to go, but tonight we decided to sit down and enjoy dinner as a party of five. We ordered three Greek salads, eggplant parm, and a mushroom and pepperoni pizza and everything was delicious, as always. The service really made the night though. The two gals who waited on us were incredible. We really appreciate this place for consistently delivering great food and even better service.

We were staying at the Marriott in Tierra Verde, and this restaurant turned out to be a great surprise. Gina took excellent care of us and was very helpful and friendly. The food was spectacular — we ordered two large pizzas and a ricotta and mozzarella calzone. Everything was amazing. The place is quite small and casual, so I recommend doing delivery or pick-up instead. Delicious! I’ll be back!

Unlike most places that say they serve NYC style pizza, this place really delivers. We got. Pepperoni pie to share and the bend to the smell to the way the cheese and pepperoni oiled the top but didn't make it soggy was so close to the original. Ive been to A LOT of NYC pizza shops and I would argue this place makes better pizza than some of them. I just wish they were closer than the 5 hour drive it'd take for me to get there from southeast ga. Still better than the 10 hour drive to NYC.

Staying in the area for Christmas-searched best pizza St. Pete Tierra Verde. Found De Russo’s Pizzeria. The minute you step in we were greeted by very friendly staff. Cozy vibe - you could tell an authentic Italian Atmosphere. Ordered Cesar Salad. Very fresh with homemade Croutons and fresh shaved Parmesan. Once our Pizza came we served it out- we knew by the Hot String Mozzarella pull that the pizzeria used GRANDE CHEESE! My husband asked our server what kind of cheese they use on the pizza - she wasn’t sure but offered to check for us. When she came back to inform us the cheese they use was Grande Cheese -my husband showed his logo on his coat had the GRANDE Logo and he works at the home office in Fond du Lac WI where they make the cheese. We talked to Salvador and Summer who both said we only use the best cheese. What a perfect night we had. Best Pizza and service. We will definitely be back very soon.

Went there the other day for a late lunch. My son-in-law got the Philly cheesesteak Stromboli. He said it was out of this world. I got the special which was the chicken Parm sandwich. And surprisingly it wasn’t a breaded chicken patty. It was a chicken breast breaded and fried. The sandwich was incredible. I ate half and brought the other half home as you can see how big it is. Two thumbs up.

My wife and I stopped here over a year ago by chance. I have been thinking about the calzone ever since. We brought our kids on vacation in the area and this was our first stop for dinner. Summer took great care of us. She was running around, checking on every table and didn't miss a beat. Good gluten free pizza for those looking. Highly recommend the meat calzone. We will be back any chance we get.

Had an amazing Hawaiian pizza at DeRusso’s Pizza! The flavors were perfectly balanced, with a sweet and savory combo that hit all the right spots. Our server, Salvador, was fantastic—super attentive, friendly, and made the experience even better. Highly recommend!
